Mack was our 1st beagle we will always be grateful to Margaret Hall for allowing us to bring him to our house. At 8 weeks old we knew Mack had what it takes to perform in the ring. Mack IS a show dog, he loves the ring, he owns the ring and boy does it show. He has that look at me, I’m here attitude. Mack won his 1st BPIS at the Land O Burns Open show in November 02 at just 6 months of age, the judge Denise Garatt wrote – “BP, PG1 & BPIS What a super puppy, only a baby but what a showman…….did not put a foot wrong.” In 2004 Mack qualified for the very first SKC Open Show Pup of the Year & also Dog of the Year, this was on a points basis counting points won at open shows, with 24 puppies & 48 dogs qualifying. Mack did the Beagle’s proud by winning Pup of the Year and getting down to the final 6 in Dog of the Year. The judge was Mr Bert Easdon (Yakee). In the same year Mack also won a large Special Yearling class at Crufts. To date he has won a BIS, RBIS, numerous BPIS as well as many BOB’s and group placings and is consistently placed at Champ Shows. Mack was the 2nd Beagle to receive the award of Show Certificate of Merit which he gained long before his 2nd birthday, he has also gained his Stud Book number. At 5 years old Mack is semi retired, we now pick and choose his shows, he is making way in the ring for his off spring…but when he sees the show lead coming out, the SHOWMAN appears…………
****************
In June 2008 we did one of the hardest things we have EVER had to do………we decided to let Mack (Macall Highlander at Bruadair ShCM) go to a new home. Mack has gone to live with father & daughter Stacey & Chris Smith on the beautiful Island of Arran…..this was not a decision that we took lightly but we decided that Mack deserved a wonderful life running on the beach and getting 1-2-1 attention, 24 hrs a day!!! Mack was a showman through and through and loved the show ring, the bigger the better. He was so unfairly treated by judges who just could not see past a crease he had in each ear……even judges who told us “he’s the best mover in the country at the moment” “he is spot on”…….when push came to shove just didn’t have the courage to put up “that dog with the funny ears” probably for fear of what others may have said!!! Other judges placed him very highly saying “ a beagle doesn’t move on their ears”……and to all those judges, we thank you. Message to Mack Your quality of life will improve ten fold, you will not have to worry about whether you’re going to the show or being left behind, I’m sure you’ll be loved and cared for and get that special bit of attention that you so much deserve.
