9th

Up in plenty of time for our drive to USK……… now those of you in the know will know that is a mistake…..the show was not at Usk it was a Builith Wells….so after realising our mistake and getting the correct post code off of a friend (who again thought we were mad) we headed in the right direction for the South Wales Champ Show………by this time my grey hair was getting greyer by the minute….it’s a good job Jill and I have a good sense of humour……the good thing about it is we saw some beautiful parts of Wales………..    Today’s judge was Mrs Anne MacDonald……..Dee was awarded VHC in limit, but Little Fudge won Graduate and gained her JUNIOR WARRANT…………….Excellent News….Well done to all at Dapperdawg….

8th

ARE YOU MAD??????  Was the question on all my colleagues lips when I asked for today and tomorrow of work when I explained that yet again I was driving back down to South Wales for yet another dog show……..  I know they think I am barking mad anyway but this just seems to clarify it to them……..  Driving to South Wales twice within 5 days………….

After getting lost….(the Sat Nav just doesn’t like to post code for the Travel Lodge at Monmouth), we arrived, paid the £40 (shocking) to get Fudge & Dee in the room along with us and settled down for the night.

4th

After a day of driving yesterday and a night in the Days Inn Jill and I arrived at the Welsh Beagle Club Champ Show in Cardiff…….today’s judge was Liz Calikes (Newlin)……….this was a very nice show, with lots of nice special prizes as it was their 40th anniversary Champ Show. Jill had a fabulous day with little “Fudge” Dapperdawg Heart Of Kaos winning Graduate & Special Beginners and Dee got a nice 2nd in Mid-Limit behind the breeds new Championn Honey……  Thanks to Liz for a good day………..Jill actually stayed awake on the way home!!

10th - Jim visits Ivy in Prague

Jim visited Prague to visit Zuzana and her family and of course to spend some time with Ivy………and he writes.

What an impressively sculpted city Prague is…..and if you want to see architecture at its finest, then I would definitely recommend a visit to the capital of the Czech Republic.    My visit was made the more memorable by the kindness and hospitality of Zuzana, Richard (god or bad policeman) and their children Barbara and Monica not forgetting the dogs……It was great to see Ivy again.

On arrival I was met at the airport by Zuzana and whisked via an extremely efficient public transport system to their home on the outskirts of the city, where lunch was awaiting my arrival.   After a traditional Czech lunch it was off with Zuzana for some sight seeing of the city…..I must have looked under pressure at some points as Zuzana asked a few times if I was OK to continue, and after a few hours of walking and jumping on and off the metro it was home to walk the dogs……..

Friday 11th.
Up early and out with Zuzana and dogs, then in for breakfast and met Richard then it was practicing with Ivy for the show next day, and she was everything I was expecting……Late morning it was off for lunch and some more sight seeing and later back home and out for a couple of beers with Richard before returning home for dinner and a few drinks.

Saturday 12th.
I’m full of excitement as we’re of to the show which as it happens is being judged by  Brian Foster (bitches) and Jen Davies (dogs) and I’m looking forward to hear Brian’s thoughts on Ivy……Unfortunately Ivy took ill (possibly something she had eaten) and was therefore unable to show.

After a visit to the vet it was lunch in a nice local restaurant, then a visit to Zuzana’s parents…..what lovely people they are and I had to try some Czech speciality home baking and plum distil (wow!!)…..and would you believe it….Ivy is running round the garden as if she hadn’t a care in the world.    After a bit it was  a drive back to Prague…...walk the dogs, have a rest and then dinner with the family.

Sunday 13th
No sign of anything ever being wrong with Ivy so we’re off for a visit to the country home in Zelisy where after a coffee, Zuzana and I went for a walk in the forest with the dogs…..we walked for miles and was shown some sandstone rock sculptures that were done by a young lad in his spare time from his duties as kitchen servant……….we had both lunch and dinner out, and some sight seeing enroute back to Prague.

Monday 14th
Breakfast with the family before being taken to the airport by Richard and Zuzana for my flight home.

I had a fantastic time in this really beautiful city, which was made even better by the way I was looked after by Zuzana and Richard, and I am a richer man having met them and sincerely thank them for their hospitality, which I truly hope some day I am able to repay if they visit Scotland.

Oh Little Man

Oh little man, Oh little man.
In me you are and what I am
Now where you are, there will I be
When come the time is right for me

A Flower of Scotland son you came
Born into life from Betty Graham
But now returned to whence you came
Dubharoch more than just a name

But were you in another guise
To open wide, unfocused eyes
To pave a way for me to be
With those I loved and yearn to see.

You came to me and left your mark
A paw print on a broken heart
Now ,slowly slowly do I wane
Until we are as one again

Oh little man, Oh little man.
In me you are and will remain
Now where you are, there will I be
Where you and I can be as we
Together one together free

27th May

DUSK (8 weeks)

8 weeks to get to know you,
8 weeks to love and care,
8 weeks of joy and happiness,
That ended in despair…..

For 8 weeks you hid a secret,
That no one was to know
Would limit the time to make your mark
And which would all but break my heart…..

You were a brave little soldier,
who battled hard against the odds
in a fight without an enemy,
you fought so hard  and lost.

If there is a doggy heaven
Then it’s there I’m sure you’ll be
And with those who’ve gone before you
…………Please wait there for me.

You are the end to every day,
Last light before dark fall.
To me, young lad, you’ll always be
The brightest “Dusk” of all….

Until we meet again… Dad xxx

Staying loyal to our Gaelic theme gave us a bit of a dilemma with our 'H' litter as the Gaelic alphabet doesn't have an H in it so after giving serious consideration on whether to jump to I names or repeat G's it was decided it would be a free pick.

This made matters worse as the whole alphabet was scanned and scanned again and again before making the decision to go with a D which was reached due to acknowledging we mainly produce Black Blankets so thought on names that signified our darker lines Dubh (black or dark) met the criteria.

Having decided on the theme, the next thing on the agenda, was to try to find a Dubh that we could get a decent pet name from and again after scanning books and a website favourite we found a couple of names that were thought suitable, and that we also thought the KC would approve.

Soooooo! .....without further ado we would like to introduce you to.... Bruadair Dubhar...  (Shade)  pronounced ...Doo aar  .....and.... Bruadair Dubharach ...(Dusk)....pronounced Doo aroch.

Obvious to the eye is that one of the pups is a blanket the other open marked, so the names chosen were done so as not to blatantly identify who's... who, but if you happen to see us showing one of them it will be Dusk (that's the name we like best)......but there again ...... it could be Shade.

Watch this space.

2nd-

Jess had her babies today, 3 boys.... sadly we lost the 1st born, the 2nd (a black blanket tri) was born around 15:40 weighing 12 oz and was fine then things really slowed down and we decided it was time for Jess to see the vet. After a C Section the 3rd pup finally arrived around 20:00 hrs, he weighed in at 11 oz and is a broken tri.

Mum and babies are now settled in at home. We haven't decided on names yet.... yesterday was just too intense, we will give them their names over the weekend....

March

29th -

West Lothian Open Show today, the judge was Mrs Marion Lawson………Cheri won the Post Graduate Class but did not progress any further………..Thanks to Marion for the nice award…

14th -

Ivy left us early this morning for her flight to Prague, she is in very safe hand with Zuzana & Barbara they all seemed to hit it off straight away.
As usual it was very sad to see Ivy go, but we are also very excited at the thought of her being in the Show ring in the Czech Republic.  We send them all lots of love and wish the well for the future.

Below are photos taken early this morning in the departure lounge at Manchester Airport where  Ivy looks totally bored with the whole thing and then at the Metro in Prague……………

Ivy is pictured with Barbara, Zuzana’s daughter

Today we had our 1st open show for what seemed like ages……….Cheri got a good 2nd in Limit (photo below) and FOS a 4th in Open…….he was very naughty today.

BOB was Iain & Jill Hill’s “Monty” who did very well in receiving a lovely group 2…

It was a busy day for me as I handled Newlin Anchorman (Zico) It was his first show and the owner was very nervous about showing, Liz Calikes showed him in the Graduate class which he won, I showed him in AV Hound Puppy (he won) and then he was awarded the Hound Puppy Group.  I waited with his owner for BPIS (which seemed to take forever) and although Zico behaved very well he didn’t win anything else…….

*********

Although we had four qualified for Crufts this year, we decided to give it a miss and enjoyed watching Crufts live on line, we were impressed with the quality and coverage.

Ivy’s new family arrive in Scotland today (11th March) for a few days site seeing before taking the gorgeous Ivy to her new home in Prague…..luckily Ivy is young and small enough to fit in with the rules and regulations of the Chez Airline and can travel as hand luggage……so she will have company the whole way there.  Ivy will be missed by us all but I am  sure she will have a lovely life in the Chez Republic with Zuzana, Richard, Barbara & Monika and not forgetting the two beagles who already are part of the household…… We wish the family well and hope that Ivy has success in the showring.

Ivy standing at 7 weeks

Ivy from the front

It has been confirmed that Jess is having babies, this will be her last litter, she is only 4 and a half but has already had 6 beautiful pups…….so enough is enough….   The Jess x FOS babies are due around the 1st April!!!

February

No shows in February, it has been a relatively quite month…….

Ivy continues to thrive and is enjoying the company of her grandmother Jess while she waits to get her 2nd vaccination and micro chipping before her short flight to Prague.  Dee, Cheri, Fos & Bru are eagerly awaiting their next show………….they will have forgotten what to do if I don’t get them out fairly soon…………………

January

24th - Today we were at a local limit show; Kirkintilloch & Lenzie,  there was a lovely turn out of beagles for Judge, Mrs Rena Lees.  I decided to take FOS out; it was his 1st show in 4 months and it was as if he had never been away, it is hard to believe he has only been to a handful of shows in 6 months………(how time flies)….Anyway FOS won his Graduate class out of 6, Cheri won her Open class and FOS was then awarded BOB and Group 4……..
Bru became a dad again today…..Gladstyle Honey Trap gave birth to 5 beautiful tri girls in the early hours of this morning..

28th - FOS & Jess were mated tonight, come back in a few weeks and we may have news of a new litter appearing before the end of March.
