2008 News

2008 Summary

Cambuslang (below) was our last show for 2008 and although we didn’t attend many shows this year, we still did well in the shows we did actually get too.  2009 will be a quiet year for us; we will be attending a few Championship Shows and the odd local open show……..  We hope to have a litter next year from either Jess or Cheri or maybe both, so who knows what will happen….. As they say   “Watch this space”……….

We would like to wish all our beagle friends a healthy & happy New Year and successful 2009 in the show ring!!

December

22nd - The show today was our local show, just a few miles from our house, it was Cambuslang Canine Society and the judge for today was Mrs Aileen Sharpe of Bullieburn Bassets. Cheri won a lovely Graduate class and Bru got a good 2nd in the Open class behind David Todd & Garry (who went onto get Group 1 and RBIS)……

20th - Our “G” litter arrived on the 20th December.  Dee delivered 2 beautiful black blanket tri bitches. Confirmation has been received from the Kennel Club on their KC Names, they are:

Bruadair Gaolach  (meaning “dear”) her pet name is Holly

Bruadair Gaoilein (meaning “A Darling”) her pet name is Ivy

November

9th -Cheri  (Bruadair Eiridinn) has now settled back at Bruadair as if she had never been away and if proof were needed then today’s results at Border Counties Hound, Lancaster did just that!!  The breed judge was Mairi Brown (Ramsayville) who had a lovely entry of beagles to go over in the 6 classes.………..  Cheri won Post Graduate, Bru won Open Dog and from the final line up Cheri was awarded BOB………… We then went under the Best In Show judge Mr Bob Gregory and he awarded his best in show as follows……. BIS Afghan, RBIS N Elkhound, BIS 3 Pharaoh Hound & BIS 4 to our little Cheri Pie!!!   You would never think that Cheri had been out the ring for 4 and a half months……………and is still only 14 months old…….(well 15 months tomorrow)

Many thanks to Mairi Brown  and Mr Gregory for making Cheri’s come back a very special one……….   Welcome Home Cheri!!

October

4th - Cheri (Bruadair Eiridann) comes back to Bruadair to stay for good….. After being back in the house 5 minutes it was as if Cheri had never been away, she has even claimed her place back on top of the sofa!!  No one was more pleased to see her than FOS, he now has someone as mad as himself to play with.  Cheri will be back in the show ring very soon!!

September

12th - At a very muddy Darlington Champ Show –  Iain & Jill Hill’s
Bruadair Cno-challtain von Dapperdawg (Darci) wins a very strong limit class under judge Mark Price – this gives Darci her stud book number – Huge congratulations to Iain & Jill

13th - At Four Counties Open Show, FOS wins Novice and gets 2nd in Graduate, Dee gets 3rd in Limit Bitch.  Judge today was Ms Dawn Banks.

14th - Today was Stanhope Agricultural Show – Dee  - Bruadair Dealaidh JW ShCM wins Open & BOB, FOS is Best Puppy in Breed  many thanks to breed judge Miss Lynn Bailey (Salenko) …….Dee then goes on to be awarded RESERVE BEST IN SHOW from over 350 dogs under Miss J Bloomfield.  This show is not on the group system so Dee was in for Best In Show along with 20 other dogs………  It was a lovely weekend for Bruadair, thanks to all concerned!!!  Special thanks to Jill for the “Korma” it was delicious!!!!

August

23rd - Today was my birthday (21 again)………and also the hound day at Scottish Kennel Club.  Our judge today was Mr J Robertson (Azrams)  FOS won Junior dog, Best Puppy and finished off with a lovely Reserve Best Dog….I am really pleased with him, he moves lovely!!  Bru didn’t have such a good day, his mind wasn’t on the job and he decided it was time to drop his coat, he was awarded 3rd in Open dog……  Dee on the other hand was on top form, she looked a picture (wish I had taken my camera) and was awarded Best Bitch……

16th & 17th - A show free weekend…….. On Saturday David (my son) took me to the Edinburgh Tattoo as a birthday treat.  I have been saying for years how I would love to see it and I must admit it was worth the wait, I thoroughly enjoyed it.  If you have never been then you should try and get tickets for next year………it was wonderful!!  See photograph below…….

On Sunday we had most of the family over………………..Lisa was suffering from a hangover ( I think) so her and Damian didn’t make it over but Laura, David, Aerryn, Barry Natalie, Aidan, Craig, Lee, Kellis and Lewis were over for dinner…….  As Laura flies out to Barcelona on the 25th of this month to start her new job teaching nursery children in The British School of Barcelona it will be a while before the family are all together again…….so it was nice to have them together…….

See the photo’s below of Laura holding Aidan…….and Aidan and Lewis…….

15th - We decided to give WKC a miss today but HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Lynn Bailey’s NEWLIN VICTOR OF SALENKO JW on getting his 1st RDCC…………. Hopefully this is the 1st of many top awards to come………….  Seamus is the half brother of Dee…….

5th - Today was Paignton under judge Brian Foster. FOS qualified for Crufts 2009 by getting a 2nd in MPD, Brian also awarded FOS a VHC in Graduate and Dee a lovely 3rd in PGB from a very large class.  I also showed Darci for Iain & Jill Hill as Jill is still not able to show due to a recent operation……Darci did well being shortlisted to the final 7 in LB, but her lack of coat didn’t help her today…………………this couldn’t be helped but considering her babies are only 10 weeks she looked very well.   Fingers crossed she will be back to 100% condition for Darlington as the judge for Darlington gave her two lovely classes at Paignton last year.
********** FOS would like to say a VERY WELL DONE to his father “GARRY” Bayard Garrick of Ramsayville who was awarded his 1st CC, BOB & Group 1 today at Paignton…..  Group Judge was Robin Searle…. Congratulations to all at RAMSAYVILLE.  ************

2nd - Hound Show at Stafford today and although I had 3 entered I decided to leave Dee at home and take the two boys……Bru & FOS.  The dog judge today was Honor Eades who awarded FOS a VHC in MPD & a lovely 1st in SBD.

July

28th - Leeds Champ Show today with judge Mr Peter Higgins giving CC’s for the 1st time.  I knew that FOS would not be Peter’s type but was desperate to get him out to a champ show…..  FOS behaved very well and did not let me down in any way and was awarded RES in MPD, Dee went one better and was given 3rd in PGB.  Later in the morning I took FOS into the MPD Stakes under Patricia Clayton and he was again awarded RES out of 15………so we were happy with our new boy, who loved the attention and had lots of fun!!  Lots of lovely comments from the ringside regarding FOS made the journey worth while!!

19th - Today was FOS’s 1st show.  It was a local Open Show “Paisley & District” at Irvine.  FOS won Graduate, Bru won Open, BOB & Group 3.  FOS also got placed a very good 2nd in the AV Hound Puppy Class.  Thanks to the judge today Mr David Todd.

12th - It’s now two weeks since Mack left us and it looks like he has settled down very well with Chris & Stacey.  Our house is so much quieter without him.

13th - It was the Hound Association Of Scotland limit show today and judging beagles for the 1st time was Fiona MacDonald (Finmorlan). Dee was awarded BOB and was shortlisted for BIS by the BIS judge Mrs Fiona Findlay (Rhiconich).

Cheri left us today for her new home with Nicola, Neil & Katie Garrett near Aberdeen, hopefully Cheri will still be shown and will make the odd appearance in the show ring……. The Garrett family are lovely and already have a working cocker spaniel called Katie.  Cheri has settled in fine and has eventually made friends with the cat, she has also discovered the best place to sit is under little Katie’s high chair……….I wonder who is going to be Cheri’s best friend, I would put a bet on it being Katie!!!

June

27th - Today we did one of the hardest things we have EVER had to do………we decided to let Mack (Macall Highlander at Bruadair ShCM) go to a new home.  Mack has gone to live with father & daughter Stacey & Chris Smith on the beautiful Island of Arran…..this was not a decision that we took lightly but we decided that Mack deserved a wonderful life running on the beach and getting 1-2-1 attention, 24 hrs a day!!!  Mack was a showman through and through and loved the show ring, the bigger the better.  He was so unfairly treated by judges who just could not see past a crease he had in each ear……even judges who told us “he’s the best mover in the country at the moment”  “he is spot on”…….when push came to shove just didn’t have the courage to put up “that dog with the funny ears” probably for fear of what others may have said!!!  Other judges placed him very highly saying “ a beagle doesn’t move on their ears”……and to all those judges, we thank you.

Mack was and always will be our star, he was my boy in the ring and didn’t put a foot wrong…… Mack is extremely happy in his new home; he doesn’t have to worry about fighting to become top dog anymore, and has the beach and the hills as his back garden, he can spend the rest of his life chasing sea gulls and having fun!!!!!……..Since Mack has gone my heart has gone out of showing…….  Is this the end of Bruadair???  The answer is I honestly don’t know…..  We have entered shows up to Darlington and then I think we will spend quality time with our daughter Aerryn who is nearly 12 and all she knows is spending weekends with early starts and late nights, travelling the country to dog shows….. We had to overcome difficulties to have Aerryn and it is time we showed her just what she means to us….

Come on Stu – keep up……..says Mack!!

You just can’t have too much attention

Look what the sea air does to you!!!!

15th - Border Union today and the judge was Veronica Bradley, she awarded Bru 3rd in Limit and Dee  3rd in Post Graduate.   We had a lovely weekend at the caravan park with Jill Hill, her boys and the Dapperdawg gang…her hubby Iain was at home with Darci & her new babies….  On the Monday morning as we were leaving the dogs pulled me over when we were out walking and I badly damaged my ankle…….meaning we missed Blackpool!!

7th - At the Beagle Club Championship Show Bru was awarded 1st place out of a very large limit class by judge Herr J H Eberhart (Germany)..........Dee was shortlisted out of an ever larger Post Graduate class by bitch judge Mrs C Linde-Fosberg (Sweden) what a good day we had.  Congratulations to Liz & David on Piglet's (Newlin Rachel JW) 1st CC & RBIS, to Mari Brown & Co on Garry (Bayard Garrrick of Ramseyville)  1st RCC...   also very well done to Fiona MacDonald on qualifying Zoe (Newlin Zoe of Finmorlan) for Crufts........

6th - Although keeping everything crossed that Fern would have show potential it sadly turns out that it was not to be….so today Fern joins the Maloney family in Hamilton.  Fern will have lots of fun and certainly not lack attention with the family of 4 lively boys!  They are thinking of doing agility with Fern which I’m sure she will just love… Fern will be very badly missed by us all but by FOS in particular

The very lovely Fern

1st - Meg went to her new home today, she is now living with her brother Brady in Peebles……..Thank you Fiona, Arthur & Scott we couldn’t wish for a better more loving family for our little girl to be part of…

Meg (far right) out walking with Jim, Dee & Cheri

May

28th - Jim’s 2nd Grandson was born today (after a long labour for his mum Natalie & dad Barry) little Aidan weighed in at 7 lbs 10 ozs……he is in Intensive Care at The Southern General Hospital but is improving……we both can’t wait to hold him in our arms!!!   Photo to follow….but he is just gorgeous!

25th - We were travelling down to the Bath Champ Show, got as far as Kendal and received a telephone call from home and had to return home……so we missed the Bath Show…..which was very disappointing!!

16th - Our local Champ show SKC today with Mrs Pamela Marston Pollock giving tickets for the 1st time, Cheri got VHC in Puppy & 1st in Graduate, Dee  got 3rd in Post Graduate & Bru a 3rd in Limit

March

24th - Today was North & South Shields at Jarrow, we spent the Sunday night in a Travelodge to save travelling... arrived at the venue at 9am to discover that the Hounds (scheduled for 10am) were now after the Toys. So we waited and waited only to be told that the Hound judge hadn't turned up and the toy judge would be doing our group.... he did the toys and then went for lunch... we walked the dogs and it started snowing... so we left without showing, we didn't want to be stranded on the motor way!! A wasted day, but we got to meet our old friends in the North East for a little while, which made up for it!

23rd - Easter Sunday and we ventured down to St Helens for the Bootle Show.... Cheri won Junior.... Dee won Open.... Cheri ended up with BOB & BPIB from Mr E Webster and the group judge Mr A Littlejohn awarded Cheri Group 2 and Puppy Group 1. Special thanks to both judges

21st - Tweedmouth today... Cheri wins junior, Dee wins Graduate, Jen Davies' Champion bitch wins Open and BOB... and Cheri finished off with BPIB and PG2... the judge oday was Miss Louise Pinkney...

15th - Today's open show was Clydebank at Lanark Auction Market. This was Cheri's 2nd show (1st open show). She was alone in Graduate and won!!! Dee won the Open class and Cheri went on to beat her half sister for BOB.... she finished off a good day with Puppy Group 2... Thanks to judge Trevor Jepson

9th - Crufts - we had a lovely weekend with our friends, Iain & Jill Hill and Fiona & Keith. The day at the NEC was very tiring as usual, Bru got shortlisted to the final 7 in Mid Limit Dog.

8th - After a very tough decision we let Bracken go to his "cousin" Baxter... and his new owners Caroline & David Moreland and their lovely girls. We couldn't wish or hope for a better home for our special boy. We are now watching to see how Fern & FOS (Flower of Scotland) develop. See our Fun Gallery for up to date photos of the pups

February

16th - We very nearly didn’t go to the show today as I have been off ill from work but I’m so glad we did…..although not feeling 100% we decided to make an effort as today was Cheri’s 1st show.  The show today was Upperward of Lanarkshire (limit) Show, the judge was Mrs R Howie (Chinzaes), Cheri won the AV Hound Special puppy class out of 11 and behaved very well considering it was her 1st time in a show ring, she then went on to win her Graduate class!!  Dee won the Open class which put the half sisters up against each other for BOB, Cheri at this point decided to show Jim up and was very naughty, Dee was awarded BOB & GROUP 1. Dee was 1st in the main ring for BIS but didn’t get any further…….and Cheri got Reserve Best Pup in Show behind a Westie, the BIS/BPIS judge was Mr Harker Brogan (Beaugate) !!   A good day all round with lots of lovely rosettes for my girls…  A lovely start for Cheri!!

10th - Dee wins Reserve SKC Open Show Dog of The Year

Today was the SKC Open Show Pup and Dog of the Year at Alva, the judge was Miss Sue Dykes of the famous Kashi kennels, she has many champions in her own breeds of Tibetan Terriers & Chinese Crested. The competition was on a match system.... one against one... First to go were the puppies and Dee was drawn against Isobel Nicol's Jacraila Mr Incredible JW, the most handsome Rottie.... we have been up together before for BPIS and Chicco got BPIS & Dee RBPIS so I knew we had strong competition and I was not surprised to see Chicco win this round..... in fact Chicco then went on to win the next few rounds and eventually awarded SKC OPEN SHOW PUP OF THE YEAR... well done Isabel & Chicco.

Next up were the Dogs and Bru & Dee both won through the 1st round, Bru was then knocked out by a Keeshound but Dee beat the Welsh Springer Spaniel and then beat the Bernese Mountain Dog in the 3rd round.... this got her through to the final 5 where the judge made her final decision.... The final 5 were, Aust Shepherd, DEE, Keeshound, Bearded Collie & Lakeland Terrier.... after being moved again, the judge decided on the beautiful Australian Shepherd IR CH Applethorn Kiss N Tell at Meitza (who coincidently won this competition last year) and to our delight awarded Dee the Reserve... We did have a good day!! We were told we were so unfortunate to meet Chicco on such a good day... but you won't hear us complaining. Thank you very much Miss Dykes for a memorable day.... Photo's to follow soon....

9th - At the Rutherglen show today, Dee gpt 2nd in graduate and Bru 2nd in open, both beaten by the Newlin girls Ruby & Piglet....

2nd - This morning I should have been travelling through to Edinburgh for the Caledonian Show (Judge Drew Littlejohn) but overnight the weather took a turn for the worse and we ended up with a falling of snow. As I would have been travelling myself (as Jim would be puppy sitting) I decided against it.... There will always be another show under Mr Littlejohn (I hope)

January

20th - Today was the Manchester Champ Show – there were no CC’s on offer for the Beagles but the judge today, Mr Ron Caney (Springpine) still drew a very good entry of 62 – Bru was unplaced in a very strong Open Dog class but Dee was awarded 1st in her very 1st post grad class….( she was 18 months last Wednesday).

18th - Bru had a visitor over to see him tonight for a little romance, a lovely little bitch called Newlin Queenie.  Needless to say Bru wasn’t interested in introductions……he didn’t waste any time in getting to know her……………

16th - Meg had her puppies tonight by C-Section, 2 dogs & 1 bitch.

We have 1 T&W dog, 1 Tri dog and 1 T&W bitch…….this is the 1st litter with T&W that we have managed to breed, it will be interesting to see how they turn out…….At the moment mum & pups are doing fine!!!!  See puppy page

12th - Today we had so many places to be and things to do …we should have been at the Bon-Accord Open Show in Aberdeen, we should have been at the Tyne Wear & Tees Hound of the Year competition with Bru, the Scottish Beagle Club was holding a match against the Whippet Club Of Scotland and Meg’s puppies are due any day now!!!!  I decided to go to the match as it is only 10 minutes drive from the house and I could come home quickly if Jim needed me for Meg. Dee & Bru both won through their rounds and the beagles won the match 11-4…….with a whippet winning Best in Match.

Meg is still hanging on…..although she is a little “leave me alone” so maybe things are beginning to happen…..

Today when I came home from the match, there was mail waiting on me from the SKC telling me that Dee had qualified for the SKC Open Show PUP and SKC Open Show Dog of the Year and Bru has qualified for the SKC Open Show Dog of the Year……this event will be held on the 10th February at Alva.  Coincidently Bru’s father & Dee’s grandfather (MACK) won the very 1st SKC Open Show Pup of the Year at this competition 4 year ago………and got down to the final 6 in Dog of the Year……….

4th - Paisley & District Open Show – Dee - 1st Open.

3rd - Kilmarnock & District Open Show - Dee won BOB, a good start to the New Year!!
